Braces for Children
Dr. Heiner subscribes to the American Association of Orthodontists recommendation that all children have their first orthodontic check-up no later than age seven. Few orthodontic problems need to be corrected at that age, but having an early exam allows Dr. Heiner the opportunity to offer advice and guidance about when the optimum treatment should begin. There are some cases which will need orthodontic assistance right away.
Braces for Adults
Orthodontic treatment can be advantageous at any age, but adults especially seem to appreciate the benefits of a beautiful smile. It is not surprising that one of every five patients in orthodontic treatment is over 21. Surgery is more often required for adult orthodontic patients because their jaws are not growing. Also, adults may have experienced breakdown or loss of their teeth and or bone which supports the teeth and occasionally require periodontal treatment before, during or after orthodontic treatment. Bone loss can limit the amount and direction of tooth movement in adult orthodontic cases.
