The palatal expander works to widen your upper jaw by applying gentle pressure on your upper molars with each adjustment. Follow the instructions provided below to adjust your expander correctly. Once the desired expansion is reached, continue wearing the appliance for several months to ensure the expansion is maintained and to prevent any regression.
To adjust the palatal expander, start by positioning the patient in a well-lit area with their head tilted back. Insert the adjustment key firmly into the designated hole. Gently push the key towards the back of the mouth; you’ll see the fender rotate, revealing a new hole once the rotation stops at the back of the expander. To remove the key, press it back and downward towards the tongue, making the next insertion hole visible. Repeat these steps as directed to ensure proper adjustment and effective treatment.
You can also download these instructions in a printable PDF document.
In a well-lit area, tip the patient’s head back.
Place the key in the hole until it is firmly in place.
Push the key toward the back of the mouth. You will notice the fender will rotate and the new hole will appear. The rotation stops when the key meets the back of the expander.
Press back and down toward the tongue to remove the key. The next hole for insertion of the key should now be visible.
